Sneaky garlic mustard mixed with other invasive plants showed up when this fence was installed. The weed seeds seem to have come in with fill when the work was done. Now all the neighbors have it too! Those darn weeds, they sure know how to take advantage of any opening! For a fun weed quiz, try to name all the invasive plants in both pictures. Giving garlic mustard the brush off! When the PNW garlic mustard working group does site tours in Portland, we make sure to leave the seeds behind! Tiny garlic mustard seeds are easily carried on boots. New garlic mustard plants can self-pollinate and rapidly populate new areas. Oregon, Washington and Alaska are all struggling to contain this plant. Prevention and early detection of new outbreaks will go a long way to helping keep it from spreading more.
