King County offering free classes on noxious weeds in May and June

Note: post updated on March 11, 2020 with new class dates.

Spring is on the way and so are the noxious weeds! King County’s noxious weed program wants to help city and county crews, landscapers, restoration groups and county residents fight noxious weeds. We offer a full day seminar in the spring and evening workshops several times a year that teach how to identify and control noxious weeds and also stay safe and protect the environment while we do so.

The noxious weed control seminar for vegetation crews and landscape professionals features information on how to protect people, wildlife and natural areas from noxious weed impacts and also how to protect people and wildlife while we control weeds. The seminar will be offered three times in 2020 with sessions in Kent on April 29, Kenmore on May 13 and Preston on May 20. Pesticide recertification credits will be available.

For people who want a shorter class, the evening noxious weed workshop teaches how to identify and control common noxious weeds and invasive plants. We will include tips on prevention, weed disposal and how to protect birds, bees and other critters while we control weeds. There will be live weeds on display to help teach identification. The class will be held on June 2 at the Renton Library from 6:30-8:30 pm.

All classes are free and open to anyone who is interested, but pre-registration is required to make sure we have enough space for everyone.
